Brian Cox: An inside tour of the world's biggest supercollider
A little more information on the Large Hadron Collider if you've been living under a rock:
Basically the LHC is a particle accelerator which will collide opposing beams of protons with very high
kinetic energy. Its main purpose is to confirm the existence of the Higgs bosom
which would assert the predictions and missing links of the Standard Model (Figure 1).
This recreates the conditions of the beginning of the universe since it explains how some elementary
particles obtain properties such as mass.
Figure 1. Summary of interactions between particles described by the Standard Model.
Other fun LHC stuff:

It looks like the entire area was just sucked up into a man-made black hole. That's hot!v0idNull wrote: Here's a live webcam feed from inside the LHC:

Did it broken? Did you guys hear about that kid in India that killed herself because of this machine? They're talking about it on Indian TV like its a doomsday device. Maybe it is, but ya gotta take risks to find out the fundamental shit. It's fucking fun-da-mental.

Had to do a search on that one, unbelievable!CTC-Salchicha wrote: Did you guys hear about that kid in India that killed herself because of this machine?

HA! And people are sending death threats to the physicists too:

An now for something really scary, according to English law, the doomsayers can sabatoge the collider legally if they fear it will cause the end of the world. This ruling will usher in a whole new era in terrorism. SUV drivers are next on the list.CTC-JimRimya wrote:HA! And people are sending death threats to the physicists too:
