VCTF-TropopauseThrowdown(beta1)

Post by Mr Bean »

Here's my first map. Pretty basic layout. Three pedestrian routes to the top of the flag pillar: Jump pads on both sided on the ramps, and the third is an elevator in the back. I may need to add more options. I may have catered to the mantas a tad too much. Since it's a beta, we'll see how it plays and make adjustments. I'm a noob at this, so please give me some advise. Also, if you think it sucks, let me know. It's all good. We live & learn. :D

Sal & Jim helped me tighty it up with textures, static meshes, lighting, weapon placements, switches, optomizations, and player starts. I really like what they did with it, so special thanks and credit to them.

As a mapping noob, I have LOTS of questions. So Thanks for helping me out Jim, Sal, Belta, Whoever, & Jeff :D

I downloaded this map and played it on my PC and I have to say it is really awesome. It first appears to be an all-out manta run map but upon further inspection foot runs are definitely possible. The jump pads on the side along with the platforms and side corridors definitely facilitate foot running. The really high ceiling and textures used also make the map look very aesthetically pleasing as well. The name chosen goes very well with the map, especially with the outside "sky-pyramid" texture used. All in all I think this is a great map and I can't wait to play it on the server. Keep up the great work Mr. Bean! :D

Good job, Mr. Bean! I put this on the server this morning and I know some people have already played it. I can't wait to try it out with a full server! Keep up the great work!

Just played this offline and combed pretty much every area (i think) it feels like a solid map. Can definitely do foot or manta - weapons seemed to be appropriately placed only LG and shock for HS and you have to work to get the LG at the little adren camping area up top :P

Again - feels solid - maybe after playing on server with a full crowd - will be able to give better feedback.

Looks like your hard work has paid off - I like it :D

I really liked working on this with you Bean. I had a good feeling for the basic lay-out and it seems to be catching on. Thanks to all who chip in to create new places to frag. We need to work on the other one you showed me now Bean. I think it will also prove to be a positive experience.

This got so much better from that early beta you showed me, both in looks and game balance. There is very little I'd change, but in the bottom of your screenshots, there's some windows on the side passages. It looks like you can shoot through those, but it's blocked. I'd like to be able to shoot through, but if you prefer not, I'd add a sheet of glass texture to make it more visually obvious.

I agree with whoever on this. I thought I could shoot through that at first. It should be more obviously glass.

Bean, when I added those windows to the side passages I turned off the collision of the meshes. If you remove the blocking volume, which I believe is a good idea, make sure you turn the collision back on. Great feedback from a committed community, thanks to all!
