Seeing as to how there are a few in this forum interested in mellow IDM and other types of music posted in the
What are you listening to thread, I hereby open this thread to people who wish to post releases that you find
interesting or that you like, and I don't think I need to remind you but please keep it legal. With all the free stuff
out there, there's no need for piracy. Thanks.


The Free Music Thread


I will kick things off with a release by one of my favorite netlabels Monotonik.

Another, long in coming Monotonik release from Scandinavian artist Coax, and 'Wobo Jomodo' is a charming set of
music in the classic sense of laidback electronica.

Starting out, we have the rolling, sharp 'Balloon Funk 1', with all kinds of sustain being built up as the bass burbles
along happily in the background, before we roll into 'Gion', all sine beeps and happy camping.

Elsewhere in the EP, highlights include the glimmering, almost futuristic 'Apple Beat', with its frantic bleeps and
breakbeats, before a second 'Balloon Funk' and a final, triumphant 'Gecta', all stately exit. Bravo.

I'm really diggin' some of the concepts that Coax has put forth in this release. Sometimes the melodic rythm
doesn't keep up with the hard beat which gives it a nice syncopation. Fans of normal music should stay away
from this one.

Project 5am's - Quixotes Of Moons Fight The Windmills Of Brixton


This time round, a Monotonik debut for Project 5am, aka Jason Haye, with the distinctly trippy
'Quixotes Of Moons Fight The Windmills Of Brixton'. Verging into deep house, electronic, and
chillout, the full-length album is a delightful mix of trancelike and straightforward.

Starting out, we've got 'Angelou', all thudding guitars and phasing synths, before we move into
'Polar Stratospheric Clouds', chunked up sounds to the fore. Some of the other highlights include
the swooshing, almost soundtrack-ish 'Crepuscular', and the echoing 'Ochanimizu'.

Overall, a delightful start, we fear - and something that will echo in our dreams for a good few
months to come. Congratulations, Sir.

Tom Brag - Zerochoice


At last, after a break of nearly two months, Kahvi returns with a new delectable release!
Hopefully your summer has been laced with high quality idm, mellow atmospheres and
interesting beats.

To ease you back into the normal 9-5 (or perhaps send a shock through the system), we've
got an exciting and invigorating nine track ep from Tom Bragl. After his first, well received
release on Kahvi (#245, What tone am I?) he decided to take up the open invitation to
release another fine selection of works.

Diverse in its range, 'Zerochoice' could be seen as heading towards the mainstream with its
fast beats and high power 'feel good' factor but all the elements that you're used to from
previous Kahvi releases are there - ranging from the truly awe inspiring 'seterror' (check out
the c64 tribute) to the emotional 'my last tea'.

Definitely liking the Zerochoice EP. The unintrusive ambient feel to the songs in it
are nice when you're coding or working on something and need to focus. The song
Prgn in it has a nice play of high pitch rhythms mixed with ominous bass beats.
3perion and zerochoice are also songs that have a free spirit feel to them with
progressive beats here and there.

Both of these releases are slow idm.
