About fucking time

Post by Beltamaxx »

This still is not over, nor will it be any time soon. All the people affected will have to deal with the aftermath for the next 2 decades, fucking BS.

My heart goes out to the people on the Gulf of Mexico, especially Louisiana. For those of you that don't know, Louisiana has along with Katrina & the oil spill, they also have CANCER ALLEY. Look it up or rent "Fuel", it will blow you away. Fuel talked about the same oil rig that broke in their documentary.

hypothetically if another hurricane did occur and as it hit the city caught fire, could a flaming hurricane exist, is the oil concentration high enough, or would the hurricane create a giant kevin costner centrifuge and leave the oil behind?....hmmmm i kinda want another hurricane to hit soon just to see

Better them than anyone else, the La. coast has profited from oil for over 50yrs, I live in the Florida Keys, we will get it in Aug and we have never made a penny from it.

Wrong, the people that work on the rigs, transportation, food, processing, in fact, oil contributes $65 billion to Louisiana's $210 billion economy, compared to about $10 billion for fishing and tourism, that is why the state got an injunction against obama's total moratorium on drilling, that would devastate the states entire coastal economy. Oil brings in so much money for them that they have celebrations for it.

http://www.shrimp-petrofest.org/

Fishing and tourism are nothing compared to what oil brings to that area. Could it be safer? No doubt, but if everyone that complained about the evil oil companies would stop driving their cars and using plastic there wouldn't be a need for offshore drilling, but that isn't going to happen is it.

Even scarier is that a spanish company is slated to start drilling 45mi from Key West for Cuba next year, Spain, a country that destroyed their economy by trying to lead the world in earth friendly (read green) technology, is going to be drilling 45mi from the only living reef in N. America. Hypocrites!

On another note I saw an article that said "if the people in the south would stop using A/C in the summer we could cut greenhouse emissions drastically" my thought is, if people in the north would stop using heat in the winter we could cut greenhouse emission up to 3x more, northerners, you go first.

What pumps more money into the U.S. economy, a Ford built in Mexico, or a Hyundai built in Alabama?

They were drilling in a mile of water.. If the federal government would get out of the way and let these guys drill closer to the coast (better yet, on land) then this wouldn't have been so difficult.. Stupid Obama.

Obama, they are drilling out there because USA is drying up, not because of politicians. Time for us to get out of the cave. When did we stop learning, wtf happen to us.

I don't want to debate, just share knowledge. You know, that thing our government doesn't want to invest in, and the rest of the of the world is starting to give away for free. That's a question that need to be answered. Why does the government NOT invest in "US" threw education.

Anyways, that's another sad truth, for another day.

Today, sustainability is key, and Algae farms maybe the answer.

This documentary breaks it down. Knowledge is power, don't be afraid to use it.

Rofl, he said "threw education" I'm sorry, I couldn't resist

Bio-diesel like ethanol is the second biggest scam ever, after AGW, there's a reason nobody wants to debate it on the green side, they can't win. A perfect example is ManBearPig, Owlgore, who started using "the science is settled, the time for debate is over!" nearly 20 years ago.
I'm all for greener energy, but current power production and storage technology, except for nuclear, doesn't have a chance of replacing or drastically reducing hydrocarbon based energy, solar and wind power require 100% backup. Wind power is so expensive and unreliable that Britain is paying wind farms not to produce power, and solar only works when, well, you know.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/energy ... owing.html

Ethanol and algae actually cost much more energy and pollution (except for this year's boondoggle in the gulf) to produce than they create, ethanol has driven the price of corn up so much that starvation in the 3rd world has exploded. I know, go to any Midwest state's corn site and they try to debunk it.

Click on the link to learn about the billion+ people the U.S. is helping starve by subsidizing ethanol production so farmers can drive new trucks and tractors every year. Besides, my truck gets 3mpg less using ethanol blended fuel vs 100% gas.

http://www.google.com/search?q=ethanol+ ... tartPage=1

Here's a thought, instead of our government throwing billions away on the insanely stupid cash-for-clunkers program, that money could have gone towards energy research, just a thought. But that was all about wealth redistribution and not about cleaning the environment.

This is my final one on this... We are not drying up. The US has more oil out here in Utah/Colorado in oil shale than the entire middle east. We have the stuff, we are being stupid and not going after it. Oil is the life blood of this world and will continue to be for a very long time!

/agree on nuke power plants

It's obviously a complicated problem, but I think there are lots of reasonable solutions, it's just that most current ones involve people being less comfortable than they are now.

- public transportation
- living closer to work
- aforementioned turn AC/Heat off
- etc

I don't see these becoming issues until people are moved out of their comfort zones, most likely with $$$.

I personally live about 10 minutes from work and don't really turn the heat on that often in the winter (it's called sweaters/blankets). I'd say I'm doing my part with that, but the truth is I burn about half a tank of gas a week on 30 miles of backroads with this:

Image

To put that in perspective, I drove about 240+ miles on half a tank when I went to Spokane recently.

I want to get a bumper sticker that says 'I'm burning all the gas you're saving with your Prius', but I know I'd get keyed

Don't forget that our northern neighbors have more oil in shale than most other countries combined.
