Re: Stop your cache from getting wiped
GREAT find, Ghosted! I hate having to download the same maps over and over again after 30 days, be it in UT3 or UT2k4! Thanks for the info!
Re: Stop your cache from getting wiped
Tig can't access the site. Posting info here:
How to increase your download cache space..
Why would you want to do this?
Because as standard, UT3 only stores 300mb of cached maps (Enough for maybe 6-8 maps). If you play a lot of custom maps that you download via the server, you may find yourself downloading the same maps over and over again. Which gets very tedious if either your connection isn't very fast, or the server you play on has a slow redirect.
Plus it's just a waste of time & bandwidth to download the same thing repeatedly.
How do we fix it!?
There are 2 things you can do.. Both require a simple edit to the same ini file.
Im not a Windows expert, so bear with me here..
First locate your UT3 UTEngine.ini You'll find this in MyDocuments > My Games > Unreal Tournament 3 > UTGame > Config
Open the ini in NotePad..
Scroll down approximately 1/4 of the way until you find [Core.System]
Near the top of this clutch of goobledegook you'll see a couple of things worth changing. These are:
1, StaleCacheDays=30
As you'd expect, this wipes maps in your cache after 30 days whether you like it or not. It probably isn't long enough. You can change it to 0, so that maps don't get wiped until the cache is actually full. Or, change it to whatever you like. I doubled mine to 60.
2, MaxOverAllCacheSize=300
This really needs to be much bigger. I increased mine to 800. But you can make it whatever you want.
300mb is barely enough for 6-8 maps or so, which isn't enough if you are into custom maps. Thus causing repeated downloads of the same maps. So this is an important figure to change.
Here is a cropped screen shot of what you are looking for, and what to change. (This shows my adjusted settings, not the original settings)
While im here.. You can also change MaxStaleCacheSize=100
I doubled mine to 200, but you can change it to whatever you like.
Finally, save your ini. Thats it

Re: Stop your cache from getting wiped
I can help you later if you want. I would have written that article in 4 lines... Maybe I should just spend a couple hours and write an ini replacer. I'm sure a lot of people here would use it.

Re: Stop your cache from getting wiped
Here are my settings btw. Sets the overall cache size to 2gigs, which should be enough to never have to redownload a popular map.
[Core.System]
StaleCacheDays=0
MaxStaleCacheSize=1000
MaxOverallCacheSize=2000
