A little more information on the Large Hadron Collider if you've been living under a rock:
Basically the LHC is a particle accelerator which will collide opposing beams of protons with very high
kinetic energy. Its main purpose is to confirm the existence of the Higgs bosom
which would assert the predictions and missing links of the Standard Model (Figure 1).
This recreates the conditions of the beginning of the universe since it explains how some elementary
particles obtain properties such as mass.
