You read what...?

Post by ru_exp »

Great idea (not mine) about starting a favorite read thread. Post up current reading material as well as past favorites. Let us know your thoughts on the books you'd recommend.

The Plague - Albert Camus
Kick Me - Paul Feig (if you were young in the 70s and 80s, you'll like this. A lot of what he wrote here was based on the TV show he produced in the early 2000s called 'Freaks and Geeks')
Frankenstein 1 & 2 - Koontz (Sal turned me onto this... very good!)
Charm School - Nelson Demille (old school 80s cold-war story, total page-turner)
Chinaman's Chance - Ross Thomas
Made to Stick - Chip and Dan Heath
"The abyss gazes also into you"

The alchemist by Paulo Coelho...
pretty much the only book you'll "have" to read.

The Stand is his best, even better than the Dark Tower series which the last book pissed me off in a few critical ways. Haven't had time to read much but I've been reading some H.P. Lovecraft collections which are pretty solid. Also Dishwasher is pretty good. It's an autobiography of some guy whose goal is to wash dishes in all 50 states.

v0id if you liked "The Alchemist" then you may also like "Illusions" by Richard Bach. This book changed my perception of religion and the world around me.

Glad to see folks here still finding time to expand their minds.

I just got finished with The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Depressing but engaging.

Some of my faves:

Galapagos by Kurt Vonnegut
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
Swan Song by Robert McCammon
They Thirst by Robert McCammon

I'll think of more in a bit.

I have to second all of the "The Stand" comments on it being King's best. Mind you, I read this back in high school along with many of King's other works. The Stand FTW!
